UN recognition for BU tourism courses

Two BU world-class tourism courses have received global recognition from the United Nations.

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) – which promotes the development of responsible, ‎sustainable and universally accessible tourism - has awarded Certification to BU’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Tourism Management.

Both courses, based within the University’s renowned School of Services Management, were awarded the TedQual (tourism education quality) Certification for their high-quality administration and course delivery – a recognition which further strengthens the University as a leading provider of tourism research and education.

The TedQual, a UNWTO Themis Foundation programme, is a methodology aimed at improving the quality and competitiveness of Education, Training and Research specialised in Tourism and Hospitality to meet the needs of the Tourism administrations and industry.

BU students studying on these courses will now benefit from the opportunity to collaborate with other leading tourism institutions of the UNWTO framework in projects and knowledge sharing initiatives.

Dean of BU’s School of Services Management Dr Keith Wilkes said: “'The School is extremely pleased to receive UNWTO TedQual Certification which provides global recognition of the quality of UG and PG tourism education at BU.”

The University’s Tourism Management courses are well recognised throughout the industry as producing graduates with exceptional vocational skills.

Ranked number one for Tourism in The Guardian University Guide 2008 and 2009, the University’s International Centre for Tourism & Hospitality Research – also recognised by the UNWTO – is staffed by some of the leading academics in the field.
