Victoria Fawcus-Robinson, a second year Events Management student at Bournemouth University (BU), has secured a highly competitive placement year with global events company Merlin Entertainment Group.

Merlin, who own some of the UK’s most popular visitor attractions including LEGOLAND, Madame Tussauds and Alton Towers, have chosen Victoria out of 300 applicants from universities all over the country for the placement role, which will be based at Madame Tussauds in London.

Victoria said: “I am thrilled to have obtained a placement with Merlin Events. They are experts within their field and at the leading edge of the leisure industry. This is a hugely exciting opportunity for me as they will no doubt offer a highly rewarding, fun and motivating work environment, creating opportunities and challenges to fulfil my potential and feel part of the company’s success- everything and more I could have hoped for my placement year.

“BU has helped a great deal by not only advertising the position but providing invaluable lectures, seminars and guest speakers which have given me an understanding on what it is employers look for and how to stand out in this competitive and fast paced industry.”

As part of her second year assessment Victoria has also helped organise a charity clothes swap fundraising event, ‘some like it swapped’ in aid of the Wessex Autistic Society with three other Events Management students.

She continued: “Part of the course is to create a live event for a particular charity or business. We chose to bid for The Wessex Autistic Society since they offer important services, such as education, support and care services for autistic people. It is a buzzing, busy charity who aims to help all that need it. The charity is consistently fundraising to get more people involved and to raise money to help the charity keep going. We are all very excited to do our part for this amazing charity and hope the event will be a success.”
