Enterprise and Skills BU Team of the Year9 February 2012
Eight groups of between 10 and 14 students from 3 secondary schools across Bournemouth and Poole fought for the title of BU Company of the Year at the Enterprise and Skills awards on February 2. Professor Jim Roach, Dean of the School of Design Engineering and Computing was on the judging panel helping to decide the winners for a series of awards including the sought after ‘BU Team of the Year’. Enigma, a collaborative team from Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls were victorious on the night with their wooden plaques. Each company had to provide a business report and deliver a five minute presentation on the night. The teams have been working since October running their own small businesses, selling products to people to make a profit. The scheme provides the students with an insight into how a small business is run and the challenges that face them on a daily basis. Each team was provided with a business advisor and each member had to apply or be elected for their positions within the company. All of the teams were in agreement that the project supported by BU had taught them some valuable life lessons, as well as business ones. Professor Jim Roach said: “A fantastic evening hearing how the next generation of young entrepreneurs have set up small businesses and run them successfully for six months. All the students worked really hard and all the presentations and trade stands were of a high standard making judging a hard task! Innovation and creativity are alive and well in Bournemouth and Poole! Great to see the University supporting local School in such a worthwhile enterprise.” Related Links:Return to News Menu page |
