4 June 2009

Students on Talbot campus BU celebrates successful results in this week’s Good University Guide.

BU’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading new universities is confirmed following this week’s publication of The Times Good University Guide 2010.

BU consolidates its position in this year’s guide by placing 58th overall and fifth amongst new universities. Over the last four years, BU is the highest climbing university in the guide across all UK institutions, rising a remarkable 27 places.

In specific subject areas, BU is the highest rated new university for Communication and Media, rising 11 places to come 9th this year. The University also scores an impressive rise of 30 places to come 5th for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism. The Times Good University Guide is the UK’s longest-running guide to assess the country’s universities.

Within the last few weeks, BU confirmed its position as the UK’s number one new university in The Guardian University Guide and claimed its highest ever position (54th) in the Complete University Guide published in conjunction with The Independent.

BU Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Curran attributes the University’s success to its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the dedication of students and staff to setting and achieving high standards in education, research, enterprise and professional practice.

“We are clearly and consistently one of the front-running new universities in the UK,” said Professor Curran. “With increased applications, more of our graduates in employment, record levels of research and enterprise activity and a continued upward trend in all major league tables, the external indicators for BU are excellent.

“I would like to thank our staff, students and the University’s many supporters for their individual contribution to BU’s continued success,” he concluded.
