BU’s newest hall of residence has officially opened ahead of the coming academic year. Bournemouth Mayor, Councillor Beryl Baxter, unveiled a plaque marking the occasion.
Around 400 students arriving at BU this Autumn will be welcomed at Lyme Regis House which is conveniently located near the town centre of Bournemouth.
Provided by Signpost Homes Ltd, part of Spectrum Housing Group, and constructed by the Leadbitter Group, Lyme Regis House also features a large retail space on the ground floor to provide easy-access shopping for residents as well as employment opportunities.
“The opening of Lyme Regis House is a key milestone in the development of our plans for affordable and contemporary student accommodation near the centre of town,” said Professor John Vinney, BU Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education. “We are grateful to Signpost and Leadbitter for helping BU to achieve this very important goal and we look forward to welcoming our students this Autumn in their new home away from home.”
Lyme Regis House is one of the largest new-build student schemes to have been built in Bournemouth by Signpost at a cost of £20.1million.
“Lyme Regis House complements our existing portfolio in Bournemouth which we’ve achieved in partnership with the University,” said Jitinder Takhar, Group Director of Development at Spectrum Housing Group. “The design of accommodation is to a truly high standard and we hope that the students will be happy living here during their time at University.”
Bob Rendell, Leadbitter Group Chief Executive, addied, "It has been a great pleasure to have worked in partnership with Signpost Homes and BU in funding, designing and building this high quality accommodation that I am sure will serve the students of Bournemouth well for many years to come. "
