BU’s Executive Business Centre opens25 September 2009
Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, Former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, and Chancellor-Designate of BU has officially opened the University’s new Executive Business Centre. The Centre, part of BU’s Business School, is located in the heart of Bournemouth’s commercial district and features an iconic design incorporating rigorous environmental standards with the latest in learning concepts. The Executive Business Centre will play a vital role as a hub and ideas exchange for the world of business, regionally and nationally. It also takes on a global presence, with a large number of international students enrolling onto its postgraduate and executive education courses, including the Bournemouth MBA. Leading academics in the field of law, economics, business and finance will continue to develop cutting-edge research within the facility. Speaking at the proceedings, Lord Phillips, who will be installed as University Chancellor in November 2009 at a BU Graduation Ceremony, referred to BU as a “special University” with “vibrant dynamism”. In his opening speech, Lord Phillips commended BU on its commitment to excellence, notably its outstanding results in research performance, quality-assured education and graduate employability during the last year. “Many of those who go out into the world of business in the future will have had the benefit of studying in this magnificent state of the art Executive Business Centre," enthused Lord Phillips. He also unveiled a new sculpture which will reside in the Centre. Created by Bryan Kneale, a member of the Royal Academy, the piece is called Kaledon and is of carved patinated brass and bronze. A distinguished audience of nearly 100, including the region’s top business people, dignitaries and BU board members, toasted the building’s success and toured its innovatively designed offices and learning spaces during the evening.
