BU Psychology academic takes up new post with British Psychological Society.

BU academic Dr Jacqui Taylor has been appointed as new Chair for the British Psychological Society’s Division of Psychology Teachers and Researchers (DTRP).

In her position as Chair, Dr Taylor, from the School of Design, Engineering & Computing, will represent the Division at a strategic level within the British Psychological Society and also advise nationally on Government consultations.

Dr Taylor’s three-year appointment follows her involvement with the Division over the last six years. During this time she edited their newsletter and served on committees to develop a generic course syllabus for use by professionals working outside of Psychology (eg. nurses, doctors, podiatrists and lawyers).

“I’m delighted to take up this position and during my time as Chair I hope to support the development of School and Further Education Teachers of Psychology, in addition to lecturers in Higher Education,” said Dr Taylor.

Dr Taylor is part of BU’s rapidly expanding Psychology Research Group and her current interests include online communication and collaborative working, social identity theory, psychological research using the Internet, social networks and e-learning. Dr Taylor has conducted research into the psychological aspects of technology since 1990 and completed her PhD, ‘A Social Psychological Analysis of Computer-Mediated Communication’ in 1995.

She also manages the high-profile Psychology Lecture Series held annually at BU which features world-renowned speakers and has recently been promoted to the position of Associate Professor – BU’s fast-track initiative for exceptional academics.
