BU celebrates highest ratings ever24 September 2008
As our students return for the start of a new term we celebrate another rise in our university league table position with the release of ‘The Sunday Times Guide’. The ‘2008 Sunday Times University Guide’, published this week, sees us rise four places to 65th out of 120 institutions, from 2007’s placing. Following our enhanced ratings in the current ‘Guardian’, ‘Independent’ and ‘Times’ league tables, the news of our ‘Sunday Times’ position confirms that in 2008, we have increased our standing in all four major league tables. We are now in the Top 10 list of ‘modern’ universities in ‘The Sunday Times’ (those that became new universities post-1992) and are currently the number one new University in ‘The Guardian’; 3rd in ‘The Independent’; and 3rd in ‘The Times’. Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Curran said: “To see BU consistently rising up the rankings is excellent news and progress continues for 2008/09, with more applicants, record levels of research and enterprise activity and on-going investment in facilities and academic recruitment.” The ‘Sunday Times University Guide’ is compiled using official published information including teaching assessment scores and graduate employment rates, using data from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). In addition to league tables success, this year's National Student Survey (NSS) revealed that we have achieved our highest ever score for Overall Student Satisfaction. In 2008, 80% of final-year students stated that they were satisfied with the quality of their course, up from 72%, four years ago. “These results for 2008 confirm our sustained progress and commitment to improving the quality of the Bournemouth University experience,” Professor Curran continued. “I would like to thank our staff, students and the University’s many supporters for their individual contribution to what has been an outstanding year in terms of performance.” Related Articles: Related Links:Return to News Archive page Return to News Menu page |
