Bournemouth University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Curran, has paid tribute to Professor Rosemary Pope, who died suddenly on 20 March. Professor Pope was Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) at BU, and a key member of the University’s Executive Group. Professor Curran said: “This tragic loss will, I know, be felt deeply by all who had the pleasure to know Rosemary. “Personally, I will miss her unqualified devotion to Bournemouth University, and all of us will miss her boundless enthusiasm, her unwavering focus on our students and, of course, her ready laugh. “Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and many friends.” Rosemary joined BU in June 2006 with responsibility for leading the educational aspects of the University’s academic performance and enhancing the student experience. She was closely involved in strengthening the relationship between BU and its partner colleges, and led the University through a successful quality assurance audit of collaborative activities in 2007. Rosemary was a Professor of Education with a professional background in health, and a PhD in Psychology. She was highly regarded as an innovator in higher education, particularly in the field of quality assurance where her work received national and international recognition. Rosemary was on the QAA register of auditors for Institutional Audit and a Trustee of the General Nursing Council Trust for England and Wales. She held academic and senior management roles in universities, arriving at BU from the University of Surrey. Rosemary's funeral will be held at St Mark's Church, Wallisdown Road, Talbot Village, Bournemouth on Friday 4 April at 11.30am. All are welcome.
