Innovative partnership to tackle trauma

BU’s renowned Media School is conducting an innovative e-learning project to help tackle work-based trauma.

BU’s unique Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) will link with one of the UK’s leading consultancies in well-being, CiC, to develop new e-learning packages.

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), a government funded business support arrangement, will see academics in CEMP working with CiC to develop e-learning opportunities to help managers learn how to identify and support staff who might suffer from the effects of stress and trauma.

This will include facilitating online conversation using blogs, wikis and forums, and combining this with high quality audio and video case studies, interactive stories and expert comment.

CiC currently offer face-to-face specialist employee support through times of crisis and trauma and have provided support for workers involved in various situations including the London 7/7 bombings, Paddington rail crash and armed bank raids.

CEMP’S Director, Jonathan Wardle comments: “I'm very excited about this KTP because the partnership between CiC and CEMP will give us an opportunity to research, pilot and roll out some much needed examples of what can be done!”

CEMP has a track record of developing innovative e-learning resources and courses underpinned by cutting-edge research. Since its creation in 2005, it has developed a number of innovative, flexible learning programmes that have benefited BU’s academic culture, as well as a number of private and public sector clients.
