The BU Staff 5-a-side football team has won Dorset’s inaugural "Shoot 4 Business" tournament. |
The event, organised by Dorset Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was hosted by AFC Bournemouth and headline-sponsored by 'iimia' (investment group plc).
The tournament attracted 20 teams from regional companies, including Fitness First, Fairline Anadalucia, FR Aviation, Lester Aldridge, the AECC Chiropractic College and AFC Bournemouth.
The BU Staff team went unbeaten throughout the tournament, playing 10 games, conceding only two goals in 'open play' and getting through two nail-biting penalty shoot-outs in the knock-out phase.
Goal-stopper Mike O'Sullivan pulled off several outstanding saves, whilst defensive commanders Jason Atkins and Mark Ridolfo led from the back.
Midfield playmakers Keith Parry and Barry Squires both took several hefty challenges throughout the day, with Keith retiring through injury.
Tom Symons - recent winner of the BU Staff Football Team Player of the Season award - crafted a series of goal-scoring opportunities, converted for the most part by striker Andy Boland.

The tournament was played in a great spirit, with the Bournemouth team particularly enjoying the support of the BU Cheerleading Squad, the "Brightstars". |
The players would like to thank the hosts and sponsors, as well as Professors Nigel Hemmington - Dean of BU’s School of Services Management, and Chris Brady – Dean of The Business School - for their support and encouragement.
