BU’s excellence recognised in league table22 August 2007
The Times (previously teamed up with Mayfield Consultants) has published its first league tables in collaboration with Exeter Enterprises. This year, BU is placed 62nd out of 113 institutions listed – our highest ever place in The Times Good University Guide. BU was placed 69th last year and has moved up an inspiring 23 places over the last three years. This ranks as the highest overall increase within the 20 Alliance members represented, and secures us a 7th position in the Alliance – the highest position ever attained by BU. Launched earlier this year, the Alliance of Non-Aligned Universities comprises a mixture of over 20 pre- and post-1992 UK universities which have a balanced portfolio of research, teaching, enterprise and innovation as integral to their missions. The Alliance was formed to help member universities lobby collectively on research funding and other higher education issues. Bournemouth is joined in the group by Manchester Metropolitan, Oxford Brookes, Sheffield Hallam, the University of the West of England and other institutions across the country. Our success in the Times Good University Guide follows our upward trend in other league tables, notably The Guardian (ranked 48th this year) and The Good University Guide (ranked 66th this year). Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Curran said: "I am delighted to see that our highest-ever The Times league table position reflects the increasing recognition of BU's excellence, and our 23-place leap from 2006 is the highest recorded by any university in the United Kingdom over the last three years." A print version of the guide, including the main league table and top ten listings of the subject tables, has been published in The Times.
