Fringe Appearance for BU Screenwriter

The Media School’s Screenwriter in Residence John Foster along with local writer Sheila West is set to make waves at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. John and Sheila have written The Murder Monologues, which stars former Olympic Swimming Medallist Adrian Turner and Conor Irwin, and explores two very distinct kinds of murder through the eyes of the perpetrators.

Little Boy, by John Foster, tells the tragic, true-life story of Major Claude Eatherly of the US Air Force, part of the team that dropped the atomic bomb - known as ‘Little Boy’ - on Hiroshima. Unable to atone for his guilt, Eatherly resorted to robbing banks and forging cheques to raise money for Hiroshima’s orphans and war widows.

The disturbing Chocolate Cake, by Sheila West, takes a chilling tour through the mind of a psychopath on Death Row as he remembers the intense pleasure he felt at the murder of children. A character too obscene to sympathise with as he faces imminent execution, our expectations are nevertheless dealt a dramatic blow by the secrets he reveals.

A dark exploration of human nature, The Murder Monologues looks at the relationship between murder condemned and murder condoned, between responsibility and detachment, between blame and guilt, and between prison bars and the restraints of the mind.

Tangled Web has reviewed the play, and says that it ‘makes for a compelling evening in the theatre, one that touches on many issues of relevance today. Excellent writing, great performances. It will have you arguing into the small hours.’

If you’re at the Fringe this year, make sure you don’t miss out.
