Kevin Marsh debates with BU journalism students

18 March 2010

Kevin Marsh

Students from BA (Hons) Multi-Media Journalism and MA Multi-Media Journalism met our visiting fellow, Kevin Marsh, this week.

‘What would you do if...?’ was the intriguing title of a master class held at the Media School this week. Kevin Marsh, a Visiting Fellow in Journalism and editor of the BBC College of Journalism, walked journalism students and staff through various scenarios related to the reporting of the Gulf War and the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

The students debated knotty editorial dilemmas such as ‘do you go to lunch with MI6?’ and how to deal with ‘off the record’ briefings and unsourced allegations. Everyone came away from the session buzzing with ideas. In the afternoon, Kevin gave a fascinating presentation on the College of Journalism website and areas of the site which are of particular interest to journalism educators.
