BU welcomes Dr. Heather Savigny as Senior Lecturer to the Politics and Media degree launching in September 2012.

Bournemouth University Media School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Heather Savigny as Senior Lecturer to the Politics and Media degree launching in September 2012.

The new degree offers a unique, interdisciplinary study of the increasingly close relationship between politics and the media in contemporary society. Heather Savigny’s research and lecturing experience are perfectly matched to the programme and builds on existing links and co-authored work with BU Media School academics Darren Lilleker, Richard Scullion and Dan Jackson.

Dr.Savigny is co-author of:

Dr Savigny joins the Media School’s Politics and Media Research Group, which recently organised a successful ‘Engaging the Public: putting the people back into democracy’ event which took place on 6 July 2012 and was attended by M.P. Bob Ainsworth, local politicians, activists, academics and members of the public.

The free one-day event addressed the alarming decline in public participation in party politics and explored the root causes of the widespread distrust in the political system. It considered ways in which political discourse might re-engage the public and drew a lively discussion on the deeper political changes required to encourage people to get involved in politics once again.
