First year BA (Hons) English student Imran Khan has won the Thomas Hardy prize for best creative writing by a first year student.
Imran was presented the award by Dean of the Media School Stephen Jukes today, a certificate and a £125 cheque.
Thomas Hardy is one of Dorset’s most famous and legendary writers of all time, born near Dorchester Hardy released literary successes such as Tess of the Ubervilles and Far From the Madding Crowd.
Imran said after collecting the prize: “I feel honoured, thankful for even being considered for the award. For my work to be appreciated by experts is incredibly fulfilling. Whilst writing the poems, I tried my best to impart as much passion and sincerity as I could, hopefully that came through.”
Dr. James Pope Senior Lecturer of BA Hons English was present at the award giving ceremony in Stephen Jukes office yesterday, praised the superiority of the award and his Imran’s achievement:
“It is a great honour for BA English to be associated with the Thomas Hardy Society, and we are very pleased that the Society is awarding an annual prize for the best creative writing. It’s entirely appropriate that one of Dorset’s best known writers is remembered via this prize in Dorset’s only English degree. Congratulations to Imran for winning the first ever award!”
