Research grant secured for project looking into the use of news websites in journalism education |
A research grant was secured this week by Dr Einar Thorsen and Sue Wallace of Bournemouth University's Media School.
The bursary, from the AJE (Association for Journalism Education) is for a research project into the use of news websites in journalism education.
The research will entail the gathering of information about news and magazine websites used on AJE member's courses, looking at their history, evolution and integration into education practice.
The application for the bursary identified a problem in the use of websites for this purpose, suggesting that while many journalism courses are making use of their own websites for educational purposes, "development, as in the new industry itself, has tended to be haphazard and quite often on a trial and error basis."
The intention of the project is to collect experiences of the use of this technology, seeking to share best practices in order to maintain high standards in journalism education.
A report on the research will be presented to the AJE conference in June 2013 and the findings will be published in the AJE's online journal, Journalism Education.
