BA Multimedia journalism students have been busy this week pitching ideas to panels

BA Multimedia journalism students have been busy this week pitching ideas to panels made up of lecturers and industry experts.

Students in their final year have to produce a piece of challenging, investigative journalism that shows originality and an ability to spot an idea that would work for a chosen market. Students pitched a number of ideas on themes ranging from olympics sponsorship to environmental waste to new trends in heavy metal music. Target markets included Radio 1's Newsbeat, Rolling Stone magazine, the Daily Mail, BBC1's One Show and Guardian.co.uk

The process has been designed to reflect the experience of pitching stories to an editorial desk with students asked to 'sell' their stories and explain how they would tell them in audio, video, online, broadcast and in print. The panel, which included tutors, freelance journalists and editors, gave students feedback on how to improve their journalism and tips on how to sell a story.
