Three graduates from The Media School at Bournemouth University (BU) have captured children’s imagination with their new radio programme ‘Professor Phlegm and the Lost Treasure Hunt’.

The trio developed the show for Create Soho, on behalf of FunKids DAB & Online radio. It first aired on 10 September and will be broadcast for ten consecutive weeks.

The creative minds behind this success are Scott Payne and Sophie Petzal, who have just graduated from BU’s BA (Hons) Scriptwriting for Film and Television, and Mog McIntyre; a 2009/10 MA Radio Production alumnus.

They originally came up with the Professor Phlegm concept whilst studying at BU and it was then written by Scott, Sophie and Arron Ferguson and directed and produced by Mog.

Mog says: “It follows an energetic, eclectic treasure collector called Professor Penny Phlegm who stumbles across a young boy called Devin Kimball. Devin is drawn to a map in the shop and finds he is the only one who can read it and can see that the map contains a list of 13 treasures. The first series explores both Penny & Devin, and their quest to find the first three objects.”

Mog’s former tutor at BU Jo Tyler has praised his passion for the medium of Radio. She said: “Mog’s links with the Scriptwriting course have proved fundamental to the student experience at the Media School and has allowed other students to work in a range of media.”

The first series of the 10 episodes will appear within their new Saturday magazine show ‘The Treehouse’ airing between 4-6 pm and is aimed at 7-10 year olds. The shows will repeat the following Sunday morning.
