A Bournemouth University Scriptwriting for Film and Television student has been shortlisted for a prestigious graduate award. |
Bournemouth University’s Isaac Parham fought off competition from 13,000 other students from 70 different universities to secure a place in the final of the Graduate 100 awards.
The BA Scriptwriting for Film and Television student will attend the prestigious event on Wednesday 15 September at the London Marriott Hotel. James Caan from Dragon’s Den will be there, along with graduate employers such as Google, Coca Cola, Microsoft and more.
Isaac said: “I think the attendance of some of these employers is exciting as it shows that the top companies, even in tough financial times such as these, are interested in employing graduates […] I will certainly be looking out for companies like Saatchi and perhaps Virgin Media who cater more specifically for my field.”
Isaac has been shortlisted for the Media and Arts category in recognition of his exceptional final year project. He describes this as “a feature script centred around the troubled life of Jimi Hendrix and set against the backdrop of chaotic sixties America”.
Isaac continues: “The biopic attempts to draw parallels between Hendrix's own identity crisis and the larger social problems of the time, depicting the sixties as a time of false hope.”
Isaac achieved a First class honours in his degree and graduates in November. Scriptwriting lecturer Rosie Cullen said: “Having tutored his Major I can say what a pleasure it was to work with him on a very ambitious feature script. Isaac is a talented writer who I felt confident could take the risks with the script which we discussed throughout the year and I am sure he will continue to shine in his future endeavours.”
Isaac said: “The course and the Media school in general has provided a wonderful environment for personal and academic development. The fact that there are so many talented writers on the course has pushed me to improve, while the insight and helpfulness of the lecturers has also aided my development.”
Isaac joins Bournemouth University Design, Engineering and Computing student, Helen Paget, who has also been nominated for the Graduate 100 awards for her work towards her BSc Computing.
