Sky-Caper to be screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival

A graduate film inspired by the animated 'Iron Giant' will be screened at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival.

BU animation graduate Dean Wright has teamed with an old school-friend to complete a film which has been accepted at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (16-27 June).

Wright, who graduated from the BA (Hons) in Computer Visualisation and Animation at the BU-based National Centre for Computer Animation, worked with University of Glamorgan graduate Todd Setter to create the skillfully-crafted 2D animation Sky-Caper.

The short film, described by Todd as 'a sky-high comedic caper', highlights the duo’s slick illustration skills and comic timing, both of which captured the attention of the Edinburgh Film Festival programmers.

“Dean and I have always loved animation, and our collaboration was mostly inspired by the 1999 Warner Bros animation ‘Iron Giant’,” said Todd. “Our skills compliment each other perfectly.”

The prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival is the longest continually running film festival in the UK attracting over 55,000 visitors every year, with a programme of 100 feature films and 150 short films shown in four venues across Edinburgh.  Sky-Caper will screen three times during the ten-day festival, and, if successful, could scoop the McLaren Award in Partnership with the BBC Film Network.

The animation degrees at BU and Glamorgan are accredited by Skillset, the UK’s Sector Skills Council for Creative Media. BU is a partner in the Bournemouth Skillset Screen and Media Academy, in conjunction with the Arts University College at Bournemouth. Glamorgan, through the Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries, is part of the Skillset Media Academy in Wales.
