Bournemouth University's (BU) Media School is the UK's number one new university for Communications and Media, according to the latest Good University Guide 2010 published by The Times.

Over the last year, BU has risen from 20th to 9th to become the highest-rated new university for study in this subject area.

The Media School at BU is the largest centre of professionally based Higher Education for the media and communications industries in the UK. The School is home to the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) which has been rated by 3D World magazine as the best place to study computer animation in the country and number eight in the world.

The School is also an accredited Skillset Screen and Media Academy and produces research of world-leading quality in Computer Animation and Communications, Culture & Media according to the recent national Research Assessment Exercise.

“We delighted with our position as the UK's leading new university for Communications and Media in the Good University Guide,” said Stephen Jukes, Dean of BU's renowned Media School. “The Media School at BU is in an enviable position thanks to our highly-skilled staff who successfully mix academic endeavour with professional practice and our award-winning students who make an impression throughout their lives at BU and well into their careers.”

BU is placed 58th overall this year's Good University Guide and fifth amongst new universities. Over the last four years, BU is the highest climbing university in the guide across all UK institutions, rising a remarkable 27 places.

The University also scores an impressive rise of 30 places to come 5th for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism. The Times Good University Guide is the UK's longest-running guide to assess the country's universities.

Within the last few weeks, BU confirmed its position as the UK's number one new university in The Guardian University Guide and claimed its highest ever position (54th) in the Complete University Guide published in conjunction with The Independent.
