|Delegates have been quick to praise the NPC|
The New Professionals Conference, held at the Maritime Museum, Liverpool on the 7th October 2008 has been an overwhelming success judging from feedback that continues to be submitted to the event organisers.
It was coordinated by BU PhD student Hannah Paddon and MA Museums Studies Programme Leader Yvette Staelens in collaboration with staff at National Museums Liverpool.
Over fifty participants attended including MA Museum Studies and PhD students from UK and beyond.
Newly elected Museums Association President and BU visiting Professor Stuart Davies' address to the conference commended BU on this groundbreaking initiative and pledged that the 2009 NPC conference attendees will be given access to the Museums Association Conference. The MA Conference is expensive to attend and beyond the reach of most students and many others in the sector and this is seen as a welcome development.
The following comments are typical of the response from all those who attended the Conference this year.
"Congratualtions on a fantastic conference! I got so much out of the day and feel much more positive about finding work in the museum sector. I thought the mix of speakers was very good and found the mixer game really useful as I did not know anyone before coming to the conference."
"Thank you so much for all the hard work you obviously put into the conference. I found it very enjoyable, and a worthwhile experience all round. I'll mention it to people in my department in the hope of drumming up some more support for next year's one. And if I'm free at the time I'll definately come along myself."
"Apologies for sending this so long after the conference. But I just wished to convey my appreciation of the conference to you. As a distance learner masters student I found it inspiring and so enjoyable to meet fellow museums studies students. The talks were also brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed the day in its entirety. I will not hesitate to recommended this to people on my course, as I feel it should be a permanent feature in everyone's diaries.
I look forward to next year."
The next New Professionals Conference will be held in London on Tuesday 6th October 2009.
