DreamWorks Animator Dave Burgess visits The Media School He tells us about life in the world of Hollywood animation |
Top animator Dave Burgess came to talk to Bournemouth students about his job as the Supervising Animator at DreamWorks in California.
Dave Burgess has animated some of the most famous characters in animation history including Aladdin, Lion King and Shrek. His long career started working at Disney where he wanted to take the big step from animating 2D to 3D features. This was a big move for Disney but at the time they were not ready for the change, so Dave left and joined Dreamworks PDI. There he worked on Ants and said he was, "in awe of what 3D allowed him to do."
"When you work on a feature, it's big and when it's finished it goes out into the world with your name on it and if it is successful, everyone in the world feels the impact."
Currently working on the Bee Movie by Jerry Seinfeld, Dave took time out of his schedule to come and speak to animation students. Bournemouth University's Computer Animation courses are world-renowned, even one of his colleagues at DreamWorks had previously graduated from Bournemouth University.
Dave has had a very successful career and he said the key is to go for what you want. "I've moved around alot in my career and this is always been because I wasn't getting what I needed creatively where I was, and I was willing to go where I needed to get it."
