MA Student Wins at Student Radio Awards The major showcase for radio industry talent. |
Zoe Mack, studying MA Radio Production, has won the Silver Award in the Comedy & Drama category of this year's Student Radio Awards.
The prestigious awards celebrated their tenth anniversary this year and were given out at a glitzy ceremony at the New Connaught Rooms, in London's Covent Garden. DJs from Radio One – as well as controller Andy Parfitt – and 1Xtra, Kerrang Radio, XFM and more were all on the distinguished guest list.
Zoe's package aired on Bournemouth's BIRSt radio station, which runs on the internet and forms a key part of the assessment programme on the MARP course. It was re-launched early this year and receives hits from around the world.
She praised the work of the station, which she said was crucial in helping her achieve the prize.
"The great thing about Bournemouth Uni is that we met some excellent speakers from the industry as well as receiving practical tuition and creative guidance. It was also an honour to study with so many talented people"
Chair of the Awards, Steve Lemacq, commented on the awards being a stepping stone towards future stardom.
"Not only has the event now become a major showcase for radio industry talent-spotters looking for the future stars of presentation and production. But we can feel at least a little pleased with ourselves for helping several key radio figures on their way already," he claimed.
The nominated package, titled 'Back to Work' is a spoof news report based in a Post Office.
Zoe summed up her recent success by thanking the School;
"I am delighted to have won silver and would like to thank Bournemouth Uni, especially our lecturers Sean Street and Hugh Chignell for their inspiration and support over the past year."
