NCCA Students Nominated at SIGGRAPH The world's leading Animation Festival |
This year we have three short animations, directed by 2005 BA (Hons) Computer Visualisation and Animation graduates, accepted for the SIGGRAPH 2006 Computer Animation Festival.
SIGGRAPH is the world's premier festival/conference for Computer Graphics and Animation and our graduates' work will be shown at the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Theater in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, between 30th July - 3rd August 2006.
Graduate, Georgios Cherouviem will be presenting his highly acclaimed animation "Theros", which has been nominated in several festivals this year inlcuding Southampton's Big Screen Festival, and Animex International Film Festival’s Audience Award. "Theros", which means 'harvesting' in Greek, is a non-narrative piece using strong imagery and repetitive animation to deliver a visual, emotional and political message. Georgios ustilised the National Centre for Computer Animation's (NCCA) industry technology, such as Maya and Shake, to produce this mesmerising piece.
Other graduates accepted to present in the SIGGRAPH 2006 Computer Animation Festival include Peter Nancollis with his animation "Sciatica" along with "Beloved" by Alexander Wilkie. Meanwhile Lei Chen, and his animation "Brush", has been accepted into both the Electronic Theatre as well as the SIGGRAPH Video Review. With approximately 750 entries this year, the selection process was incredibly competitive.
