Professor Peter Comninos, Director of Bournemouth's National Centre for Computer Animation, has travelled to the Far East on a UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) mission related to the computer games industry.

The mission, organised by the Inward Investment Group of UKTI and the Department of Trade & Industry, is aimed at strengthening relationships with key established and new games companies in Asia. Japan and Korea are already recognised as strong centres for games publishing and development and China is growing quickly with the arrival of some major new companies.

The mission participants have been brought together to promote the best of the UK, particularly to help Asian companies explore investment in the UK and partnerships with UK companies. The ultimate goal of this mission is for Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Hong Kong games companies to establish operations in the UK.

Professor Comninos, who is also Director of the NCCA Research Centre and MD of CGAL Software Limited, was chosen for the mission to represent the Research and Education sectors of the UK.

"While in Hong Kong, I have also been asked, by the representative of the South West of England Regional Development Agency in China, to attend a one-day event organised to introduce me to representatives of the Chinese Computer Animation industry in Shenzhen (China)," says Professor Comninos. "This mission also gives me an excellent opportunity to fly the NCCA, The Media School and Bournemouth University flags and is likely to lead to some good contacts and perhaps future collaborations."
