Chinese Development for The Media School Collaboration to create a major 'New Media Park' |
Bournemouth University has entered into an agreement to foster closer ties with partners in China as part of a major "New Media Park" under development just south of the Chinese capital, Beijing.
An agreement was signed at The Media School following a two-day visit to the University by representatives of Beijing Source Tech, a private consulting company that is co-ordinating foreign investment in the media park, and officials from the Da Xing District which will host the government-supported initiative.
The Media School was sought out because of its reputation in computer animation, its wider academic offerings in the media and communications areas, and its close connections with the creative media industry in the UK. |
Based on The Media School's international reputation in the creative media sector, particularly its expertise in computer animation, a number of areas of collaboration are being explored. These include:
"The agreement represents a tremendous opportunity for Bournemouth University and The Media School to collaborate with Chinese Higher Education institutions and the country’s rapidly expanding creative media industry," said Stephen Jukes, Head of The Media School.
Dr Junqi Yan, CEO of Beijing Source Tech, a leading member of the delegation to visit Bournemouth, is seeking first class international and domestic partners (e.g. educators, investors, and media, hi-tech industries) to establish their presence in the park and lead development of the new media sector in China.

"Several major Chinese television companies are locating studios in the Park and the authorities are hoping to attract start-up companies in the creative media sector," Jukes continued. "These companies, and the Chinese media industry in general, do not yet have the full range of western expertise, particularly in computer animation. So the government is seeking partnerships to help develop these skills for students and its existing workforce – The Media School is ideally placed to provide the expertise required."
