Research Recognised by the NewScientist Highlighted feature of groundbreaking system |
Two researchers from the National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) have had their recent work highlighted by the leading industry online magazine NewScientist Tech.
The feature recognises the work by Professor Jian Zhang and his colleague Xiaosong Yang having created a system that automatically generates a skeleton and muscle to fit inside a character.
The work is not only an advancement for the computer games and animation industry but it "could even have medical applications," says Zhang, allowing doctors to infer the biomechanics of a patient's anatomy from their outer appearance.
Jian J Zhang is Professor of Computer Graphics at the National Centre for Computer Animation and is currently the Director of the Computer Graphics and Visualisation Research Group. He has worked at various universities including Bristol University, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Chongqing University, Queens University of Belfast and Brunel University.
