BU Screenwriting Degree Show |
The Bridewell Theatre off Fleet Street played host to a full house for this year’s Screenwriting Degree Show. MA and BA graduates, along with invited industry guests saw performances of selected extracts from some of last year’s top scripts. Stephen Jukes, Head of BU Media School opened the evening, taking the audience briefly back to his own time as a Fleet Street journalist, before the performances began. Rehearsed professional actors then took over, with a series of readings.
Veteran film and television writer opened the second half, with a few amusing stories drawn from half a century in the business. The Alan Plater Screenwriting Prizes went to Matt Clarke (MA), and Ben Cookson (BA) .In addition to a copy of the latest Final Draft scriptwriting software, the winners will each enjoy a six months development mentorship with an independent production company. Matt will be working with Ray Winstone’s Size9 Productions, and Ben with another major UK independent .
