Royal Television Society Recognises Student Talent Television Students Nominated & Win! |
BA (Hons) Television Production students nominated for the Royal Television Society awards, a recognition "up there with the Baftas", had a very successful night with Jason Vivekananthan winning Best Student Drama for his film On The Sixt.
Students who win a regional award are then automatically shortlisted for the national awards. Up until now former student, Natalie Berry, has been the only graduate from Bournemouth to win both – but hopes are high that this achievement can be repeated!
The student awards are for the best audiovisual work created as part of undergraduate courses. The ex-students, who graduated from Bournemouth University last year, were shortlisted in two student categories in the RTS southern region.
Roz Brierley and Mel Hodson were chosen for the factual category, for their films Nick and Cookie, respectively. And in the non-factual category, Nick Doldinger was nominated for his film The Flowerman.
The short films were produced as part of the students' last year final projects. They were competing with similar student projects from institutions throughout the southern counties - from Kent to Dorset.
"Students from Bournemouth University have been shortlisted for the last five years, and an RTS award has been won by Bournemouth students each year since 2003" says BATV senior lecturer Sue Sudbury
"The Royal Television Society is greatly admired and recognised in the industry. To win one of their awards is fantastic for any student," added Sue Sudbury. The Royal Television Society is the leading forum for discussion and debate on all aspects of television. It gives people opportunities to get in contact with workers across the television community.
