Stuart Allan – Professorial Inaugural Lecture

Professor Stuart Allan

BU Professor of Journalism, Stuart Allan, will deliver his Professorial Inaugural Lecture at BU in December.

Professor Stuart Allan will deliver the lecture Re-envisioning journalism: when theory meets practice on Wednesday, 16 December, 2009.

During his lecture, Professor Allan will consider the hotly-contested questions about what counts as journalism today and what it means to be a journalist.

In offering an evaluation of this debate, he will particularly focus on the ways in which the internet is transforming journalism as a profession, and assess the possible implications of that transformation for our democracy.

Professor Allan came to BU in 2007 with expertise in a wide range of journalism-related experience and research interests.

These range from online news, with special interests in crisis, conflict and war reporting (especially the role of citizen journalism) to journalism history and the relationship between young people, citizenship and digital media.
