BU’s Professor Dimitrios Buhalis attends an impressive three international conferences in six days!

Professor Dimitrios Buhalis attended three academic conferences, each being two days in duration, in three different countries in under a week. Phew.

Dr Buhalis firstly attended ‘Education and Industry Advancing Together’ conference in Belgrade, Serbia from the 23rd-25th of September, which is the only conference in South East Europe focusing on student development and life long education. The objective of the conference was to discuss the improvement in communication between academia and the public and private sectors in the tourism and hotel industries.

Second on the travel agenda was the IFITT conference in Greece, organised by the Greek-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce the Newspaper “Kefalaio” (Capital), the portal Capital.gr and the event organisation company Symeon G. Tsomokos SA at the Hilton Hotel in Athens. Which of course bilingual Buhalis did not have a problem translating his keynote speech for, as he originally hails from Greek soil.

Next on the conference agenda was organised by The Resort Development Organisation called ‘Mapping the Journey’ (RDO) Conference at the Don Carlos Resort & Spa in Marbella, Spain. This was held at one of Marbella’s grandest hotels over looking the world famous Nikki Beach.

Dimitrios presented his ‘eTourism revolutions’ slides to a great reception at all three events, if you would like to watch his keynote speech you can on the BU youtube channel .

All of the keynote speeches Professor Buhalis gave were of immense importance on an academic and professional level, as it provided an opportunity for academics to engage with industry and governmental professionals to discuss discoveries and impact of research in the tourism industry, and to utilise this work and discoveries for future collaborations.
