BU students are being offered the chance to win £7,500 and an extensive programme of work experience in the automotive industry.
The 2010 Next Generation Award by motoring magazine Autocar is a national competition that aims to find the automotive industry leaders of tomorrow and develop future talent.
Open to all undergraduate students at British universities, the winner will receive the cash prize plus work experience at automotive organisations, including Honda UK and Mercedes-Benz Retail.
Entrants must write a 1,000-word article reflecting on industry trends and improvements within their area of study. The six best entrants will be invited to a judging day where they will present their ideas to a panel of industry executives.
Three finalists will be invited to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders Annual Dinner on Tuesday 23 November, where the winner will be announced.
David Kilburn, Head of Business Development at BU’s School of Tourism, said: “This competition is well worth entering as you can use your creativity to come up with some great ideas for the future. The cash prize of £7,500 is generous, as is the chance to gain work experience at some of the major premium car manufacturers in the UK.”
Steve Cropley, Autocar Editor-in-Chief, said: “We were delighted with the quality of the entrants last year and we’re expecting even more this year. The automotive business – especially in Britain – is a fantastic place to launch a career. It needs huge quantities of the very qualities young people have to offer: energy and fresh thinking.”
