Her poster entitled "Investigating Laser Penetration Depths of a NIR (near-infrared) Airborne Laser Scanner (ALS) in Very Shallow Water" won the award at the conference, which took place from the 14 to the 16 of March in Millers Dale, near Buxton in the Peak District.
Heather conducted her research in a shallow, non-tidal, saline lagoon located on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour. Her work intended to examine the ability of a near-infrared ALS system to penetrate shallow bodies of water to further record topographic expression by comparing existing ALS data with dGPS measurements.
The event itself is affiliated with the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Student Consortium and is designed to provide photogrammetry and remote sensing students with an opportunity to present their work to their peers and network in a relaxing environment . Various outdoor group activities, such as sailing and mountain biking, are scheduled at the conference in order to create such an atmosphere.
