Date: 3 November 2010
Students from the School of Applied Sciences are invited to get creative and design a poster expressing their experiences on their summer work placements.
Senior Lecturer in Ecology at Bournemouth University, Dr Anita Diaz is organising the competition. She said: “I have asked students to create a poster that describes their placement experience in a way that would be useful to other students. In particular I have asked them to convey why they chose to do that particular placement, what they actually did and what they learnt from the experience.”
The posters will be displayed in an exhibition at the Placement and International Fieldwork Fair on Thursday 2 December 2010, where fellow students will vote for the best one. The winner will receive a prize of £100 cash.
Dr Diaz continued: “I chose posters as a method for students to communicate their fieldwork as it is a good way to convey the essence of that experience in a straightforward and visually appealing way to others. Students are invited to present their posters at the Placement & International Fieldwork Fair, where they will be able to discuss their placements in more detail with students in an informal setting over wine and nibbles. I think it is really important that students have an opportunity to hear directly from other students.”
Entrants can include relevant photographs and logos in their posters and are advised to use one of the templates in the Poster Competition Guide, which is available on myBU. Finished designs should be submitted to Julie Gill as a Power Point file, by 12 noon on Friday 5 November.
