BU graduate receives top honours from AAFS

Date: 7 March 2011

BU alumna Claudia Delgado Aguacia was awarded the General Section Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to forensic science at last week's American Academy for Forensic Sciences' Annual Meeting in Chicago. Claudia is the first Latin American recipient of the award.

The award recognises Claudia's commitment to enhancing human rights within Colombia. Claudia is founder of the NGO AFFIC, an organisation that acts to protect human rights via the application of forensic sciences and criminal investigation in Colombia.

The work of AFFIC has attracted much attention throughout South America and has recently attracted funding from the Colombian Institute for the Development of Sciences and Technology, Colciencias. This funding will enable AFFIC to expand their work via the establishment of a bigger team and a move to new facilities.

In receiving the award Claudia dedicated her achievement to BU and in particular to Ian Hanson, Senior Lecturer in Forensic Archaeology.
