The Founder of the Conference KES 2006

The 10th International conference on Knowledge-based Intelligent Engineering and Information Systems (KES 2006) attended by over 500 participants from over 35 countries was brought to Bournemouth this autumn. KES 2006 was jointly organised by the Computational Intelligence Research Group (CIRG) from Bournemouth University and Intelligent Systems and Signal Processing Laboratory from Brighton University. The conference co-chaired by Prof Gabrys (CIRG) and Dr Howlett (ISLab) was held in the Bournemouth International Centre and ran from Monday 9th October to Wednesday 11th October.

In addressing the conference Professor Curran, Bournemouth University’s Vice Chancellor, applauded the event's growth in size and stature over the years and the developments within KES International Research Organisation led by Dr Howlett, Prof Jain and Prof Gabrys. He also highlighted a future collaboration between colleagues from Bournemouth, Brighton and Portsmouth universities to develop a Centre of Excellence for Smart Systems in support of businesses across the South of England.

KES conferences now regularly welcome over 500 scientists, engineers and researchers from around the world to hear keynote talks and paper presentations, invited sessions and workshops on the applications and theory of Intelligent Systems and related areas. The KES conferences also provide excellent opportunities for the presentation and discussion of interesting new research results leading to knowledge transfer and the synergetic generation of new ideas.
