Engineering graduates from BU are the UK’s second highest earners according to league table in The Sunday Times. |
A league table published by The Sunday Times on 13 May 2012 ranks Bournemouth University engineering graduates as the second highest earners in the UK six months after graduation. With an average salary of £38,095, they were only beaten by maths graduates from the University of Oxford.
The data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) showed that after Bournemouth University came engineering graduates from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and then economics graduates from the University of Cambridge.
Dr Tania Humphries-Smith, Associate Dean (Design and Engineering) said: “Graduates from the BU BSc (Hons) Design Engineering secure excellent well paid employment in part due to the combination of students undertaking year-long placements in their third year of study; the use of ‘live’ project briefs during their second year of study and some students taking up industry based individual final year projects.”
She continued that the course also emphasises the connection “between the research activities of lecturers in the academic group and the students’ undergraduate study with industry visits and guest speakers as well as lecturers demonstrating the theoretical element with applied examples.”
