BU students get more expert advice from the Games industry

21 February 2012

Darren Yeomans More guest lectures from Games industry professionals giving expert advice to BU students.

Following January’s guest lecture from Darren Yeomans of Newcastle-based Ubisoft Reflections, students at BU’s School of Design, Engineering & Computing have since had two further talks from games industry experts in February.

The first talk was by a team from the award-winning, Guildford-based developer Criterion, the studio behind the Burnout racing series as well as other titles such as Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Criterion is a studio owned by major American developer Electronic Arts, and the team covered the games development pipeline they employ and also graduate opportunities at their studio.

The School’s second guest lecture was from Peter Aunins of Aardvark Swift, one of the leading UK-based recruitment agencies who focus exclusively on games development.

Peter presented the results of a recent survey the company has conducted amongst games development studios concentrating on the key skills they are looking for in prospective employees.

Dr Christos Gatzidis, Senior Lecturer in Creative Technology at BU, praised the value guest lectures provide to students saying they offer them invaluable information regarding “insights and experiences from the development process, graduate/placement careers information and many other areas”.
