Poster conference attracts record entry

Recod number of entries at the fourth DEC Annual Research Poster Conference. .

Postgraduate students from BU’s School of Design, Engineering and Computing (DEC) have exhibited their PhD research at the fourth DEC Annual Research Poster Conference.

Fellow students and staff joined a team of external judges to view the 30 posters – a record for the conference, which was opened by Dr Peter Barnwell MBE, Founder and Chairman of Custom Interconnect Ltd and a member of the Bournemouth University Board.

Dr Barnwell also presented the winners with their £50 prizes during the afternoon ceremony:

1st year – Lauren Kita
Poster Title:”Does poor sleep during pregnancy increase the risk of postpartum depression?”
 
2nd year – Liliana Moyers
Poster Title: “The Influence of  Impaired Sleep and/or Impaired Glucose Metabolism on Prospective and Working Memory in  Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy Treatment: A Longitudinal Study”
 
3rd year - Choukri Mecheraoui
Poster Title: “Investigation of a Wireless Distributed FES System”

This year’s judges included Andy Packer of Selex Communications; Dr Detlef Nauck of BT Labs; Richard Bourne of Cobham Mission Equipment; Professor Nick Braisby of the University of Winchester;  Ray New of Penny and Giles; Professor Bob Cripps of BAE Systems Surface Ships and Professor Bob Howlett of KES International.

“The quality of the research was appreciated by the Judges who very much enjoyed spending time with the Researchers discussing their projects,” said Professor Mark Hadfield, Deputy Dean: Research and Enterprise for the School. “The record number of posters we had this year demonstrates the depth and breadth of research underway at BU and we congratulate our three winners for producing such high quality posters.”
