Freelance Web Designers,

BU wants to hear from you.

Your website is your shop floor; your homepage is a hotel lobby; the internet is your ticket to the international marketplace. But how do we use web design to differentiate ourselves and draw the attention of our target audiences amid the enormity of the world wide web?

BU is changing its digital presence to create a fresh, interactive experience for its varied stakeholders (including students, employers, researchers and more), where dynamic content and real-life conversations are at the heart of our communication with our audiences. We are looking for a freelance web designer to take the final design steps in this exciting journey.

What are we looking for?
You'll be an experienced web designer with a relevant degree, who can inject genuine passion and enthusiasm to quickly turn our ideas into technically feasible wireframes using Fireworks. Excellent image editing skills are a must as you will be very familiar with Photoshop and optimizing images for the web. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of Javascript, CSS, HTML etc. is essential for this role and you will draw on your knowledge of designing for 'non-standard' devices e.g. mobile, tablet, touch screens etc.

With some previous freelancing experience in the education sector under your belt, you'll understand the ins and outs of user experience design, always working with the user at the forefront of your creative innovations. Picking up on existing design work will be part of your day-to-day workload and your knowledge of accessibility requirements as well as standard web conventions will be in your second nature.

Above all, you will have a natural creative flair and whilst not being afraid to put forward your design innovations, you will be able to work within an established and reputable brand.

In addition, you'll work with our web developers to create online testing environments and there'll be opportunities to have your input into the user testing forums.

Time is of the essence with this task, so if you're a very quick worker, then we'd really love to hear from you - and fast! With a fantastic do-it-now-and-fast attitude, you'll be part of an in-house team that works hard, plays hard and supports each other to get the job done.

In return, we'll provide you with an excellent platform to gain experience in a sector that is about to undergo a real change in its marketing and communication effort as 2012 approaches. And you'll play your part in ensuring we keep our web presence relevant, timely and evidence-based, for all BU stakeholders.

Rate per day is dependent on experience.
