Economics expert joins BU

8 April 2008

Professor Adam Blake Olympic economics expert joins the School of Services Management.

Professor Adam Blake, a world expert who has contributed to many high-level research studies, has joined BU as Professor of Economics.

Professor Blake has addressed issues such as the economic effects of foot and mouth disease and the impact of 9/11. He has also analysed public policy measures in response to these crises and featured as a national media commentator on other tourism-related issues such as Air Passenger Duty and the possible global impact of Bird Flu.

One of his most recent projects included a detailed study on the economic impact of London 2012, which formed part of the UK Government’s Olympic Games Impact Study.

He has carried out research and consultancy work for a number of key UK government departments, including Culture, Media & Sport, Revenue & Customs, regional development agencies and the Treasury. He has also worked with the European Commission, as well as a number of overseas governments.

His move to BU is triggered by the career opportunities and challenges on offer.

Professor Blake said: “BU has a clear strategy for improvements to its research profile, and being able to contribute to a University with an ambitious agenda is a stimulating challenge.”

His appointment within the International Centre for Tourism & Hospitality Research further strengthens an already impressive team of academics in the School of Services Management, rated as Number One in the UK for Tourism.
