Festival countdown begins
Emerging designers and innovators from Bournemouth University’s (BU) School of Design, Engineering & Computing will display and demonstrate their creations at the 2011 Festival of Design & Innovation.
Open to the general public from Friday, 24 June to Monday, 27 June on the University’s Talbot Campus, the19th annual Festival - sponsored by B&Q, the UK’s leading home improvement retailer - will showcase over 170 designs and prototypes created by talented final year students completing undergraduate degrees in:
Simon Vaitkevicius, Senior Mechancial Design Engineer at Nokia UK, will give the keynote address at the Festival’s preview evening on Thursday, 23 June. At Nokia, Simon has been involved in the research and development of new mobile telephones - from concept and architecture stage through to handover to Product Maintenance. In his current role, Simon provides support, mentoring and training for fellow Engineers.
A member of the Council for the Institution of Engineering Designers, Simon is keen to promote Engineering through Schools and Universities to foster the next generation of up and coming engineers. He is a registered Engineering Ambassador through the STEMNET organisation and a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Teaching Fellow.
“Our Festival is where higher education meets industry and commerce to provide a showcase for our students’ skills in design and innovation,” said Professor Jim Roach, Dean of the School of Design, Engineering & Computing. “We take great pride in our students’ ability to find solutions to very real everyday problems which you’ll see firsthand throughout this year’s exciting show.”
