Professor Vinney has a long established relationship with BU, having completed his HND in Mechanical Engineering at the Dorset Institute of Higher Education, a predecessor of the current University. He went on to graduate from Bristol Polytechnic now the University of the West of England where he completed his PhD in 1998.

On accepting his appointment, Professor Vinney said “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Bournemouth University. It has been my pleasure to experience the University as both a student and as a member of the leadership team which I believe will enhance my ability to lead this institution through the many challenges we face in the years to come. I will continue to develop and improve the student and staff experience at BU and ensuring that the University continues its upwards trajectory, by focusing on quality and academic excellence”.
