BU climbs to new height in uni guide

6 May 2009

Cover of 'The Complete University Guide' BU’s continued progress is reflected in the latest university league table to be published.

BU has achieved its highest ever ranking in the Complete University Guide, confirming its status as one of the UK’s leading new universities.

The University’s rise of three places to 54th overall in this year’s Guide, published by The Independent newspaper, consolidates BU’s place in the top half of the table.

The Guide confirms the University as one of the top four:

  • Former polytechnics
  • Universities in the South West of England

And one of the top five:

  • New universities (those that became universities since 1992)
  • Institutions in the University Alliance (an affiliation of universities with a similar profile to BU)

BU Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Curran said: “Bournemouth University has transformed itself in the past few years as a result of our unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

“It is clear that we are one of the front-running new universities in the UK and gaining significantly on some of the older, more established institutions.“

“The external indicators for BU are excellent,” he continued, “with increased applications, more of our graduates in employment, record levels of research and enterprise activity and a continued upward trend in all major league tables.

“I would like to thank our staff, students and the University’s many supporters for their individual contribution to such a tremendous achievement.”
