BU academic chairs UK law school committee

Dean of BU's Business School Dr Elizabeth Mytton The Dean of BU’s Business School has taken up the position of Chair of the Committee of Heads of University Law Schools.

Dr Elizabeth Mytton, Dean of BU’s Business School, which incorporates the Department of Law, has taken up the prestigious position of Chair of the Committee of Heads of University Law Schools (CHULS).

CHULS, founded in 1974, brings together the heads of the majority of UK university law schools / departments to focus on issues of concern in the practice of law in higher education.

In her new position as Chair of the Executive Committee of CHULS, Dr Mytton represents of the views of over 100 heads of law schools and is responsible for ensuring the development of policies which may have an impact upon legal education in the university sector.

In addition, she is involved in the organisation of responses to official consultation papers, and the dissemination of good practice.

“I am delighted to have taken over the Chair of CHULS this year,” said Dr Mytton. “A key feature of the role is to recognise the plurality of law schools and the extent to which that shapes legal education.

“Our relationship with other learned societies provides a close network of law academics committed to the best interests of the academy and professional practice. In a hectic world it is wonderfully enriching to meet with colleagues whose endeavours are so vital to the success of law schools.”

Dr Elizabeth Mytton has worked extensively in the legal education sector for almost 20 years. She served as a Detective Constable on the Drugs and Vice Squad for Dorset Police and became Head of Law at BU in 1999, a post she held for eight years. During this period she engaged in research and consultancy in professional education, establishing a reputation as a leading figure in legal education.
