BU Students Get ‘Listed’ for Magazine Experience

3 April 2007

Listed Magazine Students and graduates of BU’s Media School have helped launch Bournemouth’s newest what’s on magazine.

The March issue of Listed is available from over 500 outlets across the town.

BU-related contributions to the launch issue include editorial contributions, photography and design work.

Editor Ali Wood’s approach for student contributors to David Bradshaw, Head of Journalism and Communication, last Autumn received a healthy response.

The first assignment - a fashion shoot - saw third-year student Abbie Love and Masters student Nick Steele sourcing outfits and modelling them on location in Bournemouth.

Photography was by third-year student Andy Maxwell, assisted by Tara Evans.

Abbie went on to produce a feature on modelling agency Source Models, and Nick wrote an insight piece into the gay and lesbian scene in Bournemouth.

Bonnie Redfern, former entertainment editor of BU student magazine Nerve, put her encyclopedic film knowledge to good use by editing Listed's film section.

The bright, modern design of the magazine is the work of talented BU graduate Graham Brooks.

Students have also been busy behind the scenes with Abby Tayleure, Jenny Line and Suzannah Ramsdale contributing music features, which were used in the mock-up for presenting to advertisers.

“The students have been fantastic,” said Ali, “and I hope they continue to stay involved.”

As well as the magazine, Listed can be found online. Future plans for the magazine include a modelling competition with local radio station Fire FM, and a whole new section for Bournemouth's international population.

“We hope to develop Listed further, and offer writers the chance to submit reviews and comments online,” said Ali.

“For now, though, if anyone has gig, film or theatre reviews, or event listings, please send them to awood@listedmagazine.com.

"We're also looking for photographers and illustrators.”
