Triple Honours for Graduating Family

Macmillan family graduates The Macmillan family from Bournemouth is celebrating !

Their triple success follows the graduation of mother Linda, daughter Tanya and father Eamonn from honours degree programmes at Bournemouth University.

Linda and Tanya graduated together during ceremonies for the University’s Institute of Health and Community Studies – Linda with a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Nursing and Tanya with a BSc (Hons) in Health Science. The following day, Eamonn collected his BSc (Hons) in Multi-Media Communications during ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of graduates from Bournemouth’s School of Design, Engineering & Computing.

'When we first started doing our degrees Tanya was very embarrassed about having her parents there but luckily we were all on different campuses,' Linda told the Bournemouth Daily Echo who reported the story. 'It was a great bonding exercise all doing our studying together although there were times at home when there were arguments when the computers crashed and we were on exam or assignment deadlines.'

'And we also ate a lot of baked beans during the past three years because we were living on student finances and had to budget, but it's been such a marvellous experience and has turned our lives upside down for the better.' she concluded.

Charles Elder, press spokesman at BU, said: 'To have three members from the same family graduating at once is very rare and to my knowledge this is the largest family group we've had so far. It's a fantastic achievement for them. Well done.'
