David Parham on Britain's Secret Seas

Date: 21 March 2011

The programme uses underwater photography to reveal the dramatic, colourful and surprising features which characterize British waters, as well as exploring various stunning marine life, mysterious wrecks and issues that affect British seas.

David will feature in the fourth episode ‘The Bustling South’ on 29 May at 8pm on BBC2. He will be discussing the Swash Channel wreck, which lies in approximately 7m of water immediately adjacent to the eastern edge of the dredged section of the Swash Channel in the approaches to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

The site has been designated as a Historic Wreck under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 since Friday 10 December 2004. Estimates date the Wreck back to around 1600 and much of the evidence found on the wreck suggest that it would have been a relatively high status ship for its period.

Maritime Archaeology academics and students have been researching the wreck for several years as part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project to make the wreck and its artefacts more accessible within the community.
